Besides being called a city of culture, Solo can also be called a city of batik.Likewise, if you go to Solo, it is incomplete if you do not shop for batik to bring back home. Here are some batik shops to look for any kind of batik clothing, kebaya and children’s clothing, dress, and other kind of batik-themed apparels:

 

  • Pusat Grosir Solo (PGS)

Pusat Grosir Solo is one of the most complete and largest batik shopping centers in Solo. PGS is located in the Gladag region. Sellers at PGS allow retail and wholesale purchases of various clothing items, especially batik. Besides batik, several other types of clothing are also offered.

  • Lumbung Batik

Lumbung Batik is the newest batik center in Solo, located near Kampung Batik Laweyan and more precisely on Agus Salim Street 17, Sondakan Village, Laweyan District. Inside this shopping center, you will find around 40 batik shops that offer various batik selections. Batik Lumbung was established in 2010 by the Surakarta Batik Entrepreneurs Cooperative or PPBS and inaugurated by Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who was the Mayor of Solo.

  • Danar Hadi Batik

Danar Hadi Batik has been around for decades and is well known for its premium flagship batik. Danar Hadi always presents the newest edition and are up to date with the trends among the community. Danar Hadi has various types of batik clothing for women, men, and children, from formal to casual wear. Besides apparel products, Danar Hadi also provides various accessories and knick-knacks with batik motifs. If you are a fan of batik patterns, any kind of souvenir such as key chains and many other souvenir products and you want to buy them you can come to  Batik Danar Hadi located at Dr. Rajiman street 164 Solo.

  • Pasar Klewer

Pasar Klewer provides various batik-themed clothing and fabrics, ranging from fabrics, men’s tops, skirts to negligee. In addition, you will find printed batik and hand-drawn batik. The prices given by the sellers at Pasar Klewer are also affordable enough, ranging from IDR 10,000 above. Since it is a conventional market, bargaining at Pasar Klewer is a common thing. So no need to hesitate if you want to bid the price a bit.

  • Kampung Batik Laweyan

Kampung Batik Laweyan is one of the tourist attractions that is supported by the Surakarta City Government to function as a tourist destination. This Laweyan Batik Village is considered one of oldest batik center areas in Solo and has existed since the days of the Pajang Kingdom Surakarta.

In Kampung Batik Laweyan, dozens of batik organizers market several themes, such as Tirto Tejo dan Truntum, at various prices. Besides batik, Kampung Batik Laweyan also offers many of Javanese designs. Kampung Batik Laweyan is located in Dr. Radjiman street 521 Laweyan.

  • Beteng Trade Center (BTC)

Beteng Trade Center is located in Mayor Sunaryo street, Kedung Lumbu, Pasar Kliwon. BTC can accommodate 1,600 retailers consisting of Shops, Open Shops, Offices, Exhibition Halls, Foodcourts, and parking lots with capacity of around 1,000 cars and motorbikes. Beside BTC being the business center of the trade of cloth, batik, clothing, bags, and shoes, it is also the largest and most comprehensive retail and wholesale shopping center in Solo.

  • Kauman Batik Village

Batik crafts in Kauman Village can be divided into three types: classic batik with ordinary motifs or hand-drawn batik, pure stamped batik, and mixed models of hand-drawn ones and stamps. A hand-drawn  batik with a common theme heavily influenced by the batik art of the Surakarta Kasunanan Palace, is the flagship product of Kauman Batik Village. Kampung Kauman batik goods are made with natural silk in addition to woven silk, primisima, prima, and rayon. In Kauman Village, you will find 20 to 30 batik home businesses that have long been trusted by foreign buyers who have joined partnership, especially Japan, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the United States.
