Nestled halfway between Africa and Indonesia on the Indian Ocean, the Maldives attracts tourists from around the world with its crystal blue water, pristine beaches and luxurious overwater bungalows.

The Maldives is made up of 1,190 islands and 26 atolls, more than two-thirds of which are uninhabited. The nation is a jigsaw puzzle of sandbars in the ocean and is home to a diverse and rich marine ecosystem.

A rather wide variety of species can be found in the surrounding coral reefs, making Maldives one of the more popular spots for scuba diving and a favorite research and conservation destination for marine biologists.

    Exploring the Maldives:

There are over 400 Maldives luxury resorts, beachfront villas and 5-star properties, apart from affordable accommodation options. The peak tourist season in the country is between the months of November and April, with February-March being the prime time for exploring the depths of the Indian Ocean.

Winter is the driest season here and attracts the maximum footfall. The average temperature remains between 28 and 32 degree Celsius around the year. The only downside to visiting the Maldives in the peak season is that everything little more pricier.

On the upside, dry weather equals better visibility and scuba diving is a bliss. The nutrient-rich water here is fed by the currents of the India Ocean, which is like Whole Food for the marine ecosystem.

The coral reef is home to a huge variety of tropical fish, manta ray, whale shark, reef shark, sea turtle and eel. Some of the popular dive sites include the Broken Rock and Kudarah Thila.
