    What to do in Verona: activities

    Stroll through the narrow streets of the historic center from the Borsari Gate which is the main entrance to the walled city of Verona.

    Built in local white stone, the two arches and the two upper levels are typical features of the architecture of the early Roman Empire.

    Piazza dei Signori

    Stroll along Piazza dei Signori and admire the monumental buildings that border it. Do not miss the statue of Dante in the middle of the square.

    The bullring of Verona

    Admire the bullring, the third largest Roman amphitheater in Italy with a capacity of 22,000 spectators. Every summer, the Verona Festival attracts opera lovers in a sumptuous setting.

    The Basilica of Sant’Anastasia

    Enter the Basilica of Sant’Anastasia, Gothic church built between 1290 and 1481. A pass from the association Chiese Vive allows you to visit the four historic churches of Verona at favorable rates.

    Take an audioguide and a visit sheet and discover the history of these buildings. In the Basilica of Sant’Anastasia, observe the two clams on the two columns at the entrance, nicknamed “the hunchbacks”.

    Stroll along the Adige

    Stroll along the banks of the Adige, crossing and embellishing the charming city of Verona. If you are looking for a romantic weekend, this is the ultimate destination.

    The Castelvecchio and Ponte Scaligero

    Take a detour to Castelvecchio, the most important red brick monument of medieval civil architecture in Verona. This castle now houses a collection of paintings and sculptures dating from the Middle Ages.

    Do not miss the picturesque Scaligero petting behind Castelvecchio, from where you can admire beautiful views of the riverbanks.

    Take a Spritz facing the river

    During the beautiful spring days, what better than sipping a Spritz on a terrace on the edge of the Adige? Born in Veneto, the Spritz is the refreshing drink to drink in Verona.

    The Santa Maria Matricolare Cathedral

    Often called “Duomo de Verona”, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Matricolare suffers serious damage because of the earthquake of 1117. Dedicated in 1187, this architectural complex is composed of the churches of San GiovanniinFonte, Sant’Elena and the cloister of canons.

    The Torre deiLamberti

    Climb to the top of Torre deiLamberti to enjoy a beautiful panorama of the historic center of the city. 84 meters high, this medieval tower is part of the Palazzo del Comune.

    Basilica of San Fermo

    Observe the magnificent boat-bottomed ceiling of the Basilica of San Fermo, then descend into the Lower Romanesque church. It preserves many frescoes on the pillars supporting ogive vaults.

    Ponte Pietra

    Take a stroll on the Ponte Pietra, from where you can take beautiful pictures, with the houses along the river. Destroyed in 1945, the bridge was rebuilt with the original stone blocks and bricks recovered from the water.

    The Piazza delleErbe

    Stroll along Piazza delleErbe surrounded by palaces and historic buildings such as Casa Mazzanti and its frescoed facade. Note the fountain and its Roman statue, the white marble column topped by a lion, symbol of Venice and the amazing whale coast hanging from an arch.
