Thailand is home to a variety of rare and unusual fruits that will surely give your taste buds a spin. If you are visiting Thailand, you will surely find different fruits that you can try when you go to their markets. You can prepare yourself before your visit to the country by checking out Thailand Blog. And if you want to try the most unique fruits that can be found in Thailand, then look at this list.

    Durian

This is known as the “king of fruits.” It is very popular for its unique appearance, smell, and taste. Durian can surely bring out a mix of reactions from people. It has a spiky exterior and a very strong aroma. Those who like durian say that its custard-like flesh is both creamy and sweet. Durian can be eaten on its own or as a desert.

    Dragon Fruit

Also known as “pitaya,” dragon fruit is hard to miss. It has a vibrant pink or yellow skin and when you cut it in half, you will see a white or red flesh that is speckled with tiny, black seeds. It has a slightly sweet taste and a texture similar to kiwi.

    Mangosteen

If Durian is the King of fruits, mangosteen is often referred to as the “queen of fruits.” This is due to its unique taste and appearance. Mangosteen has a thick, purple rind, and inside is its tender and juicy flesh that is divided into segments. Its sweet and tangy flavor will give you a hint of citrus and tropical fruits.

    Rambutan

This fruit looks like lychee. It is a small and round fruit covered in skin that is red or yellow with spiky hairs. Once you peel the skin off, you will get the juicy and slightly sweet flesh with a hint of acidity.

    Salak or Snake Fruit

Snake fruit has a reddish-brown scaly skin that resembles the snake scales. And once peeled, the fruit gives you three segments of flesh. It has a sweet and tangy flavor that is similar to a mixture of pineapple and apple.

During their seasons, you can find all these unique fruits in Thai markets, fruit stands, and supermarkets. These are just some of the many fruits that you can locally source in Thailand. That is why if you visit, do not forget to give these fruits a try if you have never tasted them before.
